SYNOPSIS
In the near future, as humanity extends its presence across the solar system, Elena, a seasoned astronaut, reluctantly accepts one final mission before returning home to Earth: a detour to Mars to assist a stranded colleague. But what begins as a minor assignment turns into an unexpected odyssey when an accident hurls her deep into space—far beyond any hope of rescue.
Alone in the vastness of the cosmos, with failing life support and darkness closing in, Elena faces not only the threat of death, but a profound confrontation with the meaning of her existence. Just when all seems lost, a mysterious encounter transports her to an unthinkable place: a future Earth, transformed and peaceful, where time flows differently and humanity has reached a new level of awareness.
What she learns there will challenge everything she thought she knew—about her mission, her species, and herself.

🎬 What is The Abyss?
It is a science fiction short film that blends philosophy, isolation, and a hopeful outlook on humanity’s future. The
story follows Elena, a veteran astronaut who, on her final mission, diverts to Mars to rescue a stranded crewmate. However, an accident hurls her into deep space, far beyond all human contact.
As she fights to survive, Elena experiences a mysterious encounter that transports her to a future Earth transformed and at peace. What seemed like the end becomes a new beginning… though not in the way she expected.
🌌 What makes this project different?
The short film hasn’t been filmed using traditional methods. Everything is created from scratch in my studio using:
- Carefully selected stock footage
- AI-generated scenes
- Visual effects composition in After Effects and Fusion
- Realistic environments built in Unreal Engine
This technique allows us to build a believable and visually striking universe using accessible resources—without sacrificing narrative quality or emotional depth.

👤 Who am I?
I’m Walder Martinez, a filmmaker, sound designer/editor, and producer with over 35 years of experience in the film industry.
Throughout my career, I’ve worked on award-winning films and projects for platforms like Prime Video.
“The Abyss” is a deeply personal and experimental work born from my independent studio, La Galera Multimedia.
🧭 How will we make it happen?
The entire production plan is underway, the story is
written, the visual editing is in progress, and the technical resources are in place. With your help, the project will be completed in the coming months. By the end of July 2025, it will be ready for release.

This is a project with a well-defined plan and an

only potential risk is a slight delay in the planned release date (July
2025), due to the complexity of post-production or specific logistical
issues. In any case, we follow a realistic schedule and are committed to
